4 Essential Objectives For Your Phone Interview

14 Aug

Job hunters often think of phone screening interviews as obstacles to be overcome rather than valuable opportunities to gain credibility. However, if you anticipate and meet the needs of your human resources interviewer, you will transform that person into your advocate within the company.  By the way you speak, skilled interviewers will draw conclusions about your ability to think on your feet and communicate effectively, as well as your personality, your attitude, and how you might fit into the company’s culture. Through this overview discussion, your interviewer will develop a profile of you, along with general impressions.

In my latest article published on USNews & World Report, I offer four essential objectives which will help you jump over this hurdle like an Olympian. Here’s the link: http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/outside-voices-careers/2012/08/14/4-essential-objectives-for-your-phone-interview-

I’ve been an HR Manager for over 30 years so read career articles with a somewhat skeptical eye; however, there is much truth to this one by Arnie. The dynamics of a phone interview are much different from a face to face interview but the job hunter needs to tackle the same things: establish a personal brand, explain motivation for the job, how it fits into her or his overall career aspirations and, really importantly, tackle those potential red flags proactively.
